How Kujaku is built
Kujaku fuses three ideas: the metallic base of an Ogon, the fine black net (matsuba) of a Matsuba koi, and the red pattern of a Kohaku. When it comes together the fish glows in sunlight like polished metal.

Pattern and lustre
Look for clean matsuba scales evenly distributed across the back, deep lacquered hi, and a bright metallic head (bogote). The best Kujaku hold their lustre year-round, not only when freshly bowled.

No. Kujaku belong to the Hikarimoyo (metallic patterned) class. They're judged in their own category at koi shows.
Do Kujaku keep their lustre with age?+
Good bloodlines do. Sakai-line Kujaku in particular hold their metallic finish well into their teens.
