The Ogon family
Ogon means 'gold' and refers to the metallic single-colour Nishikigoi group developed by breeder Sawata Aoki in the 1950s. Yamabuki Ogon is the bright yellow variant, named for the yamabuki (Japanese kerria) flower. Related metallics include Platinum Ogon (silver-white), Orenji Ogon (deep orange), and Kin Matsuba (gold with pinecone-scale netting).
