Thailand koi vs Japanese koi
Thai-bred koi deliver strong colour and hardy bodies at a much lower price than show-grade Japanese Nishikigoi. They are an excellent choice for stocking a new pond, adding colour variety, or building confidence before investing in premium Niigata imports.
Health and conditioning
Every fish is quarantined, actively feeding and inspected before release. We hold them in filtered, temperature-stable water so they acclimate smoothly into your pond or holding tank.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How much does a Thailand koi fish cost?
- Thailand koi are $115 each at Maple Crown Koi, with no minimum order. Pricing is per individual fish regardless of which variety you choose from the batch.
- What koi varieties are included?
- The current batch includes Kohaku, Taisho Sanke, Showa Sanshoku, Shiro Bekko, Yamabuki Ogon and Platinum Ogon. Availability changes as fish are reserved.
- Can I pick the specific koi I want?
- Yes. Visit our Markham facility or call (647) 982-4219 and we will help you select the individual fish you like from what is currently swimming.
- Are Thailand koi as good as Japanese koi?
- Thai-bred koi are hardy and colourful at a lower price point, while Japanese Nishikigoi from Niigata breeders carry the bloodlines, body conformation and finish that show judges reward. Both make excellent pond fish — the difference is grade and price.
- Do you ship Thailand koi across Canada?
- Yes. We offer pickup in Markham, delivery throughout the Greater Toronto Area, and insulated, oxygenated shipping to the rest of Ontario and Canada.
- Will Thailand koi survive an Ontario winter?
- Koi are cold-hardy and overwinter well in a properly built pond of at least three to four feet deep with open water for gas exchange. Smaller fish are safest grown indoors through their first winter.
- How many koi can I add to my pond?
- A common guideline is roughly 100 gallons of well-filtered water per adult koi. Plan around adult size rather than current size so you do not overstock later.
