Assorted Baby Koi — Details
Assorted baby koi (5–8 cm) are the most affordable way to start a Nishikigoi collection in Toronto, Markham and across Ontario. Each $12.99 fish is hand-netted from our mixed grow-out batch, so every order is a genuine surprise of classic Japanese koi patterns.
What you receive
Every baby koi is individually netted from our indoor grow-out system the day it ships or is picked up. Because the batch is mixed, varieties are assorted and cannot be reserved by pattern — that variety is exactly what makes stocking a pond with babies so rewarding.
- Size: 5–8 cm (fingerling grade)
- Price: $12.99 per fish, no minimum order
- Varieties may include Kohaku, Sanke, Showa, Shusui, Ogon, Bekko and Asagi
- Healthy, actively feeding and quarantined before release
Why start with baby koi
Young koi adapt quickly to new water, are far easier to acclimate than large adults, and let you watch colour and pattern develop over the first two to three years. For a new pond or a first indoor tank, buying several 5–8 cm koi costs a fraction of a single show-grade adult while teaching you the fundamentals of koi keeping.
Care for 5–8 cm koi in Ontario
Baby koi do best in stable, well-filtered water between 18–24°C with gentle flow and plenty of oxygen. Feed a small-pellet growth food two to three times daily in warm months. If you are overwintering outdoors in the Toronto area, we recommend growing babies indoors through their first winter before moving them to the pond in spring.
Pickup and delivery
Local pickup is available at our Markham location at 5357 19th Ave. We also deliver across the Greater Toronto Area and ship elsewhere in Ontario and Canada with oxygenated, insulated packing. Call or text (647) 982-4219 to arrange your order.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How big are these baby koi?
- Each fish measures approximately 5–8 cm. They are true fingerlings, sold individually rather than by the bag.
- How much does a baby koi cost in Toronto?
- Our assorted baby koi are $12.99 each with no minimum order. Larger, hand-selected Japanese koi start higher depending on variety, size and quality.
- Can I choose the variety or colour?
- No — these are assorted koi netted at random from a mixed grow-out batch, which is what keeps the price at $12.99. If you want a specific variety such as Kohaku, Sanke or Showa, browse our named variety collections instead.
- How many baby koi can I put in my pond?
- A common guideline is roughly 100 gallons of well-filtered water per adult koi. Because these fish are only 5–8 cm now, plan around their adult size rather than their current size to avoid overstocking later.
- Are baby koi good for beginners?
- Yes. Baby koi are forgiving, inexpensive and adapt quickly to new water, making them the ideal way to learn water chemistry and feeding before investing in premium adult Nishikigoi.
- Will these koi survive an Ontario winter?
- Koi are cold-hardy, but 5–8 cm fish are safest grown indoors through their first winter. Move them outdoors in spring once they reach roughly 13–15 cm and pond temperatures stabilise.
- Do you ship baby koi across Canada?
- Yes. We offer local pickup in Markham, delivery across the GTA, and insulated, oxygenated shipping to the rest of Ontario and Canada.
- What do I feed 5–8 cm koi?
- Use a high-quality small-pellet or crumble growth food, fed two to three times a day in small amounts the fish finish within a couple of minutes.
